Photoshop/ GIMP tutorial :
The programs I used were Gimp 2.6 and Adobe Photoshop CS5. They were similar in many ways. One of the ways that they are similar is that they are both software that alter images or create images. The second way that they are similar is that they are both programs that are easy to use.
The challenges that I faced while trying to do this project were that since I was new to Gimp I didn’t know the buttons or their functions. I realized that the buttons were similar to the ones used in Photoshop like the paint tool and the shapes tool. First, I started out with a circle. I wanted to fill in the circle but I was not sure how so I went to a tutorial and it showed me how to get a list of colors and patterns to fill the shape in. I like the leopard print so I picked that one. I continued to create shapes and fill them in with different fillings. I moved on to Photoshop and tried to recreate the image I created in Gimp. I was somewhat successful but I didn’t get fillings right however I choose fillings that were similar. While using Photoshop I had forgotten how to use it because it has been a while since I used it. I ask my partner, Kristin for assistance and while I was asking for assistance I used one of the SWLG (School-Wide-Learning-Goals) which was communication. One difference that I noticed was that Gimp and Photoshop each had different positions in which the tools are set up. I also noticed that Photoshop didn’t have the same patterns as Gimp. Through this project I learned how to use a new program. For example, if I can’t use Photoshop one day I can use Gimp and accomplish one of the SWLG which is problem solver. I prefer to use Gimp in the future than Photoshop because Gimp is an easy program to use and it has more interesting fillings than Photoshop. |
